My role in this project was to deal with it just before the deadline. I wasn't in charge of this project. I was in charge of another project, but the results right before the deadline were not good, so I joined in a hurry.
The project was being produced as an unreal engine in which none of the team members were skilled due to the problem of taking too long to render in Maya with 'Arnold Render'.
I only had basic knowledge of Unreal engine, so I could solve the basic Shading issues and also 'data-smith' and some settings.
Due to the lack of visual effects of this content, we thought environment should have more depth & density. And also I suggested to give a transition to 3D Toon shading at the late part. After that, I was provided with emoji and illust style assets in collaboration with the company's 2D team. And then, I applied to 3D scene.

I added simple rigid body simulation at the rear space.
And for more pleasant content, I added three keyframe animation variations.

Also, I added pushed face effects. It is simple math.
But it was not so visible in final output.


Before processing late part, I textured again for blender. Because previous things had no SSS or transmission texture, etc. To us, unreal engine's shading process was hard to use when mixing many shader effects.




Simple cute assets I added on scene. I used cloth sim, particle system.




And then, I started toon shading. I heard cycles' toon shading is complex so I chose eevee renderer and it was relatively easy to apply. I took some tests and realize 'simple is best'. After that, I added digital transition effect. Simple shader mixing.





Company's 2D team worked hard for this project.
They made a lot of png sequences for my request.


Then, I assembled them like cake. I made candy&jelly group's animations separately.
Finally, for cute visual, I added some shaking shrinking effects.
In summary
My work with 2D team took less than two weeks contain planning & making & rendering.
